Fritz Zalisz is an exponent of Leipzig expressionism and belonged to the group of artists who have become known as the “missing persons” generation (verschollenen Generation.) He lived from 1939 in Südstrasse in Zuckelhausen which was renamed after him in 2001. Son of the goldsmith and jeweler Josef Zalisz, Fritz Zalisz studied under A. v. Hildebrand in Munich before military service in the first world war where he served as a war artist. Afterwards he was a pupil of the Academy Leipzig. Zalisz worked often in portraiture with wide brush strokes, and was well known for his graphic works.
