Willibald KRAIN studied painting in Breslau and Munich.
Well-known as a painter, draughtsman and illustrator, he produced
works based on social criticism and anti-militaristic themes. He was a major contributor to
German social democratic and satirical magazines. When the Nazis came to power, Willibald Krain
received a professional disqualification. (1933) In the last weeks of the war he was drawn into
the “Volkssturm”. He was taken prisoner by the Red Army and on prisoner transport he
suffered a gunshot wound which he later died from in a Dresden hospital.
